Badin School History

School History The original Badin School building was completed by the French in the late summer of 1917 on an 8-acre plot between Boyden and Henderson Streets. The grounds were landscaped and maintained by ALCOA, the company responsible for a self-contained community with schools being a central focus. This building is currently in use and houses the Kindergarten through fifth grade classes.

During the 1950's and 1960's, another building was added that included classrooms, an auditorium, a library and office area. This building now houses our 6th-8th grade middle school students.

Badin is a strong community school and a good relationship exists between home, school, and the community. For example, community groups use the school gymnasium and our school uses the town ball fields. We are even able to use the golf course and tennis courts adjacent to the school for different activities. The cooperative spirit that the town was built upon is present to this day.

The natural areas are part of the appeal in Badin. Badin Lake and Morrow Mountain enrich this community. Ths natural beauties of the Badin area are the focus of a beautiful scenic panorama in the Media Center (showing trees, shrubs, birds, and flowers native to Badin; the lake, and a section representative of a dam, with stones from the area) done by a local artist.

Badin Students The current population of Badin School is 429. Our population has changed quite a bit in the past several years due to the local economy, a large redistricting of our entire school system and the fact that several new schools have opened.

Our school is divided into three main sections. In the older building, we have a Kindergarten-2nd grade primary wing and a 3rd- 5th grade elementary wing. The middle school grades are located in a separate building. We are fortunate to have a gym, a computer lab, an art room, and an auditorium that are in constant use by all grade levels at the school.

Having middle school grades allows us to field sport teams, sponser clubs, and have an active student council. At Badin, we feel that we have the best of both worlds.

Badin is a Title I school and through the funding received, we have chosen to have a reading teacher and assistants in all Kindergarten through 3rd grade classrooms. We also have 2 full time teach/re-teach tutors that work with students in the tested areas.
